Who doesn’t love taking a selfie? Unfortunately, trying to get a flattering selfie while wearing glasses can be a bit more of a challenge.
Read on for some simple tips and tricks to help you take the perfect selfie, with your spectacles on.
Optimising Light
Good lighting is a must for a good selfie. However, wearing glasses in bright light can cause reflections and shadows on your face. You can avoid this by making sure that the sun or any other false light is behind you when you take a selfie.
You should also try to avoid using a flash when you’re taking a selfie with your glasses on. Today’s phones are so high-quality that, most of the time, even in dim light you can still get a good photo without using a flash.
Avoiding Glare from Your Lenses
Light reflecting off your lenses can really ruin a selfie. The easiest way to stop reflections from your glasses and ensure your eyes can still be seen, is by getting an anti-reflective coating on your lenses.
In addition, the glare from your lenses can be reduced by turning slightly away from any light, or tilting your head down a little.
Finding the Right Angle
Finding the perfect angle to best show off your glasses without hiding any of your features, can be tricky.
When you’re wearing glasses, don’t take the selfie head on. Instead, you should rotate your head into an off-centre position. Try to get a variety of different views and angles to choose from.
Tip tip: keep your camera slightly above head level to avoid an unflattering chin angle!
Using Your Frames
When you’re taking a selfie with your glasses on, think about if you want the frames to contrast or blend in with the background.
If you are wearing bold or colourful glasses, use them to compliment the overall look and composition of the photo.
Rule of Thirds Technique
Split your selfie photo into thirds with the horizontal and vertical grid lines on your phone camera.
Position the most important parts of your selfie on these lines, or where the lines meet. Keep your eyes 1/3 down from the top line and off to one side of the frame.

The best way to up your selfie game and show off your glasses to the max, is by taking lots of different shots and experimenting with angles.
