The Diesel Fashion collection is something fashionistas are always hyping and they have launched their FW22 collection at Milan Fashion Week and with a Kylie Jenner campaign.
Despite the bizarre outfits, Glenn Martens’s latest Diesel collection was one that was on-brand, provocative, and even a little futuristic. In the spirit of Diesel’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection, imagine finessing your winter wardrobe to look like you’ve escaped an apocalypse.
Diesel’s recent efforts to increase its commercial appeal can be seen in many of its design cues. Diesel’s logo skirts, denim-printed jumpsuits, and distressed jeans are instantly recognizable.
The more conceptual items, like the practical jumpsuits and the mossy denim sweaters, demonstrate Martens’ slight opposition to this commercialism.
Autumn/Winter 2022
At the Milan Fashion Week, Glenn Martens debuted his first live runway show for Diesel as a designer and creative director. Vogue describes Glenn Martens to be charged with doing “something magical and fantastic out of that most democratic and practical of fabrications, AKA denim, for the everyday world. On the strength of the two collections he has done thus far, he has achieved it, and how. Yet with this fall 2022 collection, we’re getting the real measure of Martens’s big ambitions for the brand.”
Martens truly embodies Diesel’s sexy, fluid, and fun spirit with a collection of 69 looks and a runway decorated with giant blow-up sculptures of seductive women dressed in denim and white tanks.
Martens did what he does best when it comes to clothing; he has combined utility with avant-garde style, roughness with refined elegance. Micro-mini skirts made from leather belts are an editorial-friendly alternative to the Miu Miu skirt set. Low-rise jeans hugged the hips but still had a loose, slouchy fit, giving them a coy but masculine look. Wearing ultra-sexy club wear from the early 2000s, models sported slinky, metallic separates with shimmering body paint.
When it came to men’s clothing, the aesthetic was decidedly more rugged. Some of Martens’ most iconic designs include distressed leathers, oversize coats made to look like matted faux fur, and futuristic sneakers with treaded soles and crisscrossed straps. Following Kanye West’s public endorsement of Diesel by dressing his ex-girlfriend Julia Fox in the brand and treating her to a hotel suite filled with Martens designs, the new collection has arrived.
The sources of inspiration for this collection go back several decades. Regarding fashion, there’s no better way to show off your retro style than by pairing a mint and pink jacket with a pair of matching micro skirts. Diesel’s aesthetic is adaptable, as evidenced by the wide range of coats on display. There is a denim trench and a distressed denim coat with a supersized silhouette. More conventional designs like a camel coat exist, but dramatic pieces like a glorious pink-ruffled jacket are what stick out in people’s minds.
Sustainable collection
Diesel has been associated with denim since its inception in 1978. In the new collection, denim is the fabric of choice, with many of the pieces coming from the Diesel Library of sustainable denim. Securing the brand’s new motto, the Diesel Library recently made its debut and featured a great portion of sustainably produced items that will be available permanently. You don’t need to buy more frequently and can wear for a long time. From tops and skirts to jeans and shirts, it has everything. It has everything from jeans and shirts to tops and skirts.
American-made denim has taken the fashion world by storm in everything from shirts to trench coats. As a result, the colour scheme is dominated by shades of washed blue-gray. Beyond denim, you’ll find chiffon and organza dresses, leather suits and shearling flight jackets, and a bewildering array of metallic coated knit dresses. Diesel’s heritage collection includes a trench with hand-finished latex details, knitted tops, and bombers made from cutting, sewing, and dyeing old recovered jersey pieces.
Bottom line
The takeover of the brand by Martens was widely anticipated. The Y/Project creative director and ANDAM prize winner doesn’t disappoint with his latest collection for the brand. A new era of Diesel is upon us, one that is trendier and more experimental than any before it.
